World AIDS Day Mapathon
MapGive, along with Youth Mappers and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), hosted the second annual PEPFAR (U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) mapathon at the OpenGovHub in observance with World AIDS Day. The mapathon engaged the volunteer mapping community and helped publicize PEPFAR’s need for detailed geographic data.

This is the 2nd year that Mapathons and Mapathon related activities were hosted at the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting. Attendees joined a community of online mappers and contributed to five different OpenStreetMap (OSM) projects supporting humanitarian and development efforts.

Map Africa for a brighter future
Map data is key to humanitarian and development missions. On March 14, in partnership with the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, HIU will participate in a mapathon to improve map data in Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and Togo.
